On Tuesday night, it was revealed that Peter Helliar was the next celeb to be leaving the camp, with his fellow celebs heartbroken.

It was no surprise that funnyman Pete was well-loved by his campmates, smuggling the laughs as well as a truckload of heart into the jungle with him.

"I was worried there would come a point where I was like, 'Why did I sign up for this? I don't like some of my campmates and these challenges are ridiculous.' But it never really came. I loved it all," Pete told 10 Play.

"I couldn't have asked for a better group of people," he continued. "I was hoping that I might have two or three close mates in the jungle, and I thought I had earmarked a couple who might have been going in.

"When I didn't see them I was a little bit like, 'Oh, okay...' but I'm really glad it worked out like that because I got to know a bunch of people, a lot of them I had never met before, and it was a sensational experience."

Now back in the real world, Pete said the obvious thing he's looking forward to is speaking to his family, but he also couldn't wait to hear the sweet sound of a flushing toilet once again. But possibly most importantly, Pete plans on  catching up on all the games his beloved Collingwood played while he was in the jungle. "That last quarter on ANAZ Day sounds like an absolute belter," he added.

"Being away from home, from my family, the longest I had been away is about a week, and that's with communication. That was really hard... but you couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to be a surrogate family."

Pete came armed with tons of stories to entertain his campmates, including the eye-watering sum Rove turned down in order to keep working with his mates. Pete also revealed more about how he found himself behind the Project desk, as well as the reasons behind wrapping up his time on the panel after nearly a decade.

Dodging a lot of the more gruesome trials, Pete competed in some of the most hilarious. First, dressed up like a giant chicken, he had to carry eggs to a nest and “lay” them, an image we’ll never be able to scrub from our brains.

Then he and Nathan Harry became the Pirates of the South African Jungle in a shockingly funny trial that had our sides splitting, and the duo screaming.

And on Tuesday night, Peter, Liz, and Harry made an absolute meal out of the final eating challenge of the season, taking home a full suite of stars after obliterating everything the Dive Bar had to offer. Not even a shot of fermented herring could stop the terrific trio.

"The feeling you get coming back from trial, funnily enough it only happened in the last 24 hours, with a full compliment of stars... you feel really good," Pete said of his favourite moments in camp.

"The mentality of the camp was to just get the job done for the others back at camp so, when you get to come back with the maximum stars, that was pretty special."

Pete’s time in the camp was in support of the Legacy Foundation, which in 1923 made the promise to help the families of veterans after the loss or injury of their loved ones. Still staying true to that promise today, Legacy continues to offer guidance, assistance, and support for 40,000 partners and children of veterans from across the country.

"I've always loved ANZAC Day, and had a real interest in military history but to find out last year -- through doing Who Do You Think You Are? with SBS -- that my great grandfather fought was a real eye-opener and it gave me a story to zero in on.

"It was really special to represent [Legacy] and, hopefully, I got the word out a bit more about them and the amazing work they do."
